If you get a new phone, uninstall/reinstall the Authenticator app, Factory reset your phone or remove your account from the authenticator, you need to contact the helpdesk (helpdesk@lit.ie) to get your authenticator settings reset. 

 
 

First time set up  

  
Important: Before you can add your account, you must download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app. 

 

  1. Sign in with your LIT email, and password  

  

  

  

  1.  You will now be presented with the following message – Click Next  
      

  


Select Receive notifications for verification from the How do you want to use the mobile app area, and then select Set up.

The Configure mobile app page appears. 

Screen that provides the QR code 

  1. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app, select Add account from the Customize and control icon in the upper-right, and then select Work or school account. 

  1.  Note 

  1. If this is the first time you're setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app, you might receive a prompt asking whether to allow the app to access your camera (iOS) or to allow the app to take pictures and record video (Android). You must select Allow so the authenticator app can access your camera to take a picture of the QR code in the next step. If you don't allow the camera, you can still set up the authenticator app, but you'll need to add the code information manually. For information about how to add the code manually, see Manually add an account to the app. 


  1. Use your device's camera to scan the QR code from the Configure mobile app screen on your computer, and then choose Next. 

  1. Return to your computer and the Additional security verification page, make sure you get the message that says your configuration was successful, and then select Next.

  1. The authenticator app will send a notification to your mobile device as a test. 

  1. On your mobile device, select Approve. 

  1. Select Done 

 
 

 

Resetting the authenticator app 

  1. Contact helpdesk.lit.ie to get your old authentication settings removed from the system. 
     

  1. Sign in with your LIT email, and password

  2.   
      

  1.  You will now be presented with the following message – Click Next  
      
      

  1.  Select Receive notifications for verification from the How do you want to use the mobile app area, and then select Set up.

  1. On  your Mobile Phone – Open the Microsoft Authentication App  
     
    If the app gives you the option, select ‘Add Account’  
       
    If the app doesn’t give you this option, please go to the top right of the app please click the + sign or click the three dots/ three lines. 

  


  1. Click ‘Work or School Account’  

  


Select ‘Scan a QR Code’  
  

Using the Mobile Phone scan the QR Code displayed on your second device.  

  

  

  
  

On your second device - Click ‘Next’ and ‘Done’  
  

  
  

  

   

You will now get a notification on you Mobile Phone in the form of a pop-up message (like a text) asking for approval. Select ‘Approve’ and enter either your Biometric fingerprint or Phone security PIN. 

 

Done.
